The Power of Organizational Communities

How the Project Management Society empowers Project Management Excellence

Context

In mid-2021, a small passionate group of Project Management enthusiasts at OMV Petrom launched an online community to boost knowledge and collaboration among project management professionals. Three years later, the community, now called Project Management (PM) Society, boasts over 700 members across the entire OMV Group. Today, it continues to enhance Project Management practices through shared experiences, continuous learning, and mutual support.

Their Mission

The PM Society aims to foster a culture of excellence in Project Management by providing a platform for members to exchange knowledge, share best practices, drive collaboration and support each other in overcoming challenges. Whether colleagues are seasoned Project Managers or just starting their journey, the PM Society offers valuable resources, continuous learning opportunities, and a supportive network to help them succeed.

Key Initiatives

  • 2023 Focus on Learning: Monthly one-hour sessions focused on each Knowledge Area of PMBOK (Project Management Body Of Knowledge), combining theoretical insights with practical examples.
  • 2024 Flagship Initiative – Practice Hour: A monthly series of events providing an integrated perspective on Project Management, from initiation to successful closure. These sessions focus on the PMI Talent Triangle: Business Acumen, Ways of Working, and Power Skills, helping project professionals develop a balanced skill set through shared experiences.
In addition to these events, the Project Management Society encourages knowledge sharing and support among its members. Community volunteers from different business units, the Engagement team, assist with Project Management tools and practices, fostering a better understanding of methodologies and creating a collaborative environment.

We eagerly anticipate having part of the Engagement team from OMV Group share more details about the PM Society during the annual conference of the PMI Romania Chapter on September 27, 2024.
